Global flooding is a real impact of climate change that is increasingly being felt throughout the world. This phenomenon occurs due to an increase in earth temperature which causes melting of polar ice and an increase in sea water levels, as well as extreme intensification of rainfall. Data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows that floods are now occurring more frequently, with their frequency and intensity increasing significantly in many regions. One of the most striking impacts of global flooding is economic loss. Destroyed infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and buildings, incurs enormous repair costs. In developing countries, 40% of the population lives in flood-prone areas, so the economic impact falls on many already vulnerable communities. Agricultural losses are also a major problem, as rice fields are submerged in water, affecting crop yields and food security. Floods also threaten public health. Polluted water can cause diseases such as cholera, diarrhea and other infectious diseases. Additionally, floods often result in poor sanitary conditions, increasing the risk of spreading viruses and bacteria. Data shows the number of cases of flood-related illnesses increases sharply after major flood events. From a social perspective, global flooding creates a demographic shift. Many people were forced to flee their homes, triggering the phenomenon of environmental migration. Climate refugees often do not have access to adequate resources, leading to social tensions and conflict. Countries experiencing severe flooding often face challenges in providing assistance to victims, exacerbating existing social injustices. Floods also have an impact on the ecosystem. Waterlogged environments undergo significant changes, affecting flora and fauna that depend on their native habitats. Loss of biodiversity is also a major threat, because species that are unable to adapt eventually become extinct. Mitigation and adaptation measures need to be taken to deal with global flooding. Building an effective drainage system, improving infrastructure and managing water resources are solutions that must be implemented. Public awareness and education about climate change are also very important to build resilience to disasters. By better understanding global flooding as a result of climate change, we can develop more effective plans to address this issue. Collaborative efforts at local and global levels are also needed to create a safer and more sustainable environment for future generations. At the same time reducing the negative impacts of flooding which will continue to be a big challenge for humanity.
